WEEKLY LEGAL NUGGETS

THE RADIANT JUSTICE CHAMBERS, OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY THE REASON EASTER IS A MOVEABLE FEAST The Easter Act 1928 (chapter 35) A moveable feast means a religious festival that occurs on a different date each year Easter and Passover are movable feasts. From the earliest years of Christianity, Easter has been a very important feast, and the date of the observance varied. By about A.D. 400, the Western Church assigned December 25 as the date for the observation of Christmas. The Easter season, however, has a variety of dates for its celebration. Historically, it is believed that Jesus Christ’s Resurrection occurred on a Sunday and therefore Easter should be celebrated on a Sunday but there were conflicts regarding this and they were resolved by the Council of Nicaea (Council of Nice). In A.D. 325 the Council of Nicaea (Council of Nice) decreed that Easter should be celebrated by everyone, everywhere, on the same day and the day should be the first Sunday after the first full...

HAPPY EASTER

THE RADIANT JUSTICE CHAMBERS, OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY HAPPY EASTER Easter is a Christian festival that celebrates the defeat of death and the hope of salvation. Easter celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion by the Romans. Section 10 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended protects religious freedom and religious festivals are recognized as National Holidays. Religion is the very basis of human life. It establishes forms of social order by prescribing the norms, behavior, and practices expected in society. Through religion, people find things that bring them solace and inner peace. Religion provides an explanation for reality; something to fill in all those questions that we often ask ourselves e.g why are we here? where do we go when we die? what happens if there is no God? As such people find comfort in understanding the mystery of life. Religion helps law enforcement because followers of a particular...

First thing you need to understand is that law exams aren’t there to test how much you can cram. Basically, it’s meant to test your knowledge of the area of law which the question borders. There are several types of law exam questions: • Short answer • Essay questions • Fact based/ Problem Questions. These question types would be addressed in detail subsequently. But we will be discussing, today, on how to prepare for law exams and what makes an examiner grade some students higher than some other. The General Purpose of Law Exams Like I earlier stated, the purpose of law exams isn’t to see how much a student can cram or how many laws a student knows. Success in law exams require not only mastery of the material but the demonstration of an ability in legal analysis. The purpose of law exams is ...
